I’m not sure if the problems with Paypal have always existed or if something has changed, but just recently we have had an increase of over 100% in complaints regarding our purchase page.
Currently we simply redirect users to Paypal to complete the purchase process. This has always had the following problems:
- The look and feel of the Paypal purchase page doesn’t match our website.
- Paypal “encourages” user’s to have a paypal account. If a user had already used a particular credit card then they are forced to login.
- Users would get two email confirmations, one from paypal for the purchase confirmation and one from us for the registration code.
- Paypal has restrictive policy towards many countries.
For the last 3 months I have been aware of these problems, but thought Paypal was the best solution available. However, recently we’ve received many emails and even blog posts about Paypal causing our customers grief. Then today I got this email:
I’ve reported this before. I very much wish to purchase 1PASSWD, but I have not been able to. Paypal tells me I cannot use my credit cards (I tried three). I assure you that I entered my data correctly and that my cards are all in more than good standing. Paypal is an absolutely miserable operation. I’m not alone in feeling this. You are losing business. The idea of 1PASSWD is outstanding. I hope to be able to use it properly someday.
This user said it such an eloquent and simple way that I couldn’t stop thinking about it: “Paypal is an absolutely miserable operation.”
We have heard you and are looking into alternatives.
